12 Years a Slave - Steve McQueen - Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar Predictions 2014

This is a big year for first time nominees in the adapted screenplay category. Only the Before Midnight trio has been nominated in the screenplay category before. John Ridley’s 12 Years a Slave screenplay seems the most likely to take this award, since the film is the Best Picture frontrunner and the Best Picture winner almost always takes one of the screenplay awards. If Philomena or The Wolf of Wall Street have a surprising surge, they might pose a threat, but I doubt it. — Alex Carlson
