Steve McQueen Directing - Best Director Oscar Predictions 2014

Can 2014 repeat the rare occurrence in 2013 where the Best Director Oscar went to a director whose film did not also win Best Picture? It is actually possible with the outpouring of appreciation for Alfonso Cuarón achievement in the technical marvel Gravity. However, I think that the love for 12 Years a Slave is just too strong and this award will go to McQueen, giving his film the Picture/Director/Screenplay trifecta. It’s exciting that the two directors competing for the Oscar are the two in this category who received their first nominations this year. — Alex Carlson

1) Steve McQueen, 12 Years a Slave
2) Alfonso Cuarón, Gravity
