Trailer for ‘Invictus’ Makes it Look Like Solid Oscar Material

In true Eastwood fashion the trailer for his latest movie came out very late in the year. However, it was definitely worth the wait. The Oscar chances of his latest film seem like they may be the strongest out of his recent efforts (everything after Million Dollar Baby). Invictus has a lot of the elements that the Academy loves to reward – based on a true story, conquering racial tensions, A-listers with what looks like career-defining performance opportunities. However, on the negative side, it’s a sports movie, which rarely get Oscars, but the trailer seems to imply that the rugby that is shown is secondary in the film and it’s really about the relationships behind the sport.

There also appear to be several parallels to the American political climate. Invictus hits theatres on December 11, 2009.

I have been more and more impressed with Matt Damon lately. I hope this movie goes well for him, and he can get an Oscar nomination.
