‘Avatar’ Edges Slightly Closer to ‘Titanic’

I’m kind of getting sick of writing about Avatar‘s box office success. We all know what’s coming and might as well just give Avatar the trophy now. It set the record for films in their sixth week by earning $36 million and staying atop once again.

Three new releases this week managed to crop the top ten including Legion, which debuted at number two with only half of Avatar‘s gross at $18.6 million. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s family comedy The Tooth Fairy (which shockingly also stars the legendary Julie Andrews) debuted at number four with $14.5 million.

Also, a story nobody else is reporting on it and is kind of interesting to me is the fact that Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel has become the third highest grossing film of all-time to never reach #1 at the Box Office. It’s never even reached number 2. It now sits just behind the first Alvin and the Chipmunks installment, which also apparently never reached number 1.

Look for Avatar to finally break Titanic‘s record in both the international and domestic all-time Box Offices. The Edge of Darkness will make a fated attempt to overtake Cameron’s film, but end up number two.
