British Independent Film Awards 2011 Go To ‘Tyrannosaur,’ ‘Shame’

View the Updated Precursor Charts

Irish actor Paddy Considine made his directorial debut this year with his film Tyrannosaur, a critical darling that up until now had received minimal awards attention. That changes tonight as the film nearly swept the British Independent Film Awards. The film took home the top prize for Best Film and earned Considine a Best Debut Director award. The Best Actress prize also went to the film’s Olivia Colman, which adds some fire to her grassroots Oscar campaign.

This is a great year for British films: “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”, “Shame”, “We need to talk about Kevin”, “Shame”, “Submarine”, “Coriolanus”. I’ sure that O. Colman and M. Fasbender have locked BAFTA nominations.
