Film Misery’s 12 Days of Christmas Movies

Tomorrow, December 13th, will mark 12 days until Christmas and we at Film Misery will be embarking on a huge undertaking to count down to the special day. Starting tomorrow and every day up until Christmas, Davin and I will be posting a review of one of our favorite Christmas movies. We have compiled our top twelve Christmas movies list and each day will feature one rank higher on the list. • There are 12 great Christmas movies? “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Miracle on 34th Street”… after that, I’m drawing a blank. Okay, I’ve heard great things about “A Christmas Story”. Just please tell me “Home Alone” isn’t going to make an appearance. Please…

  • No idea. I’m more of a fan of Christmas specials than full fledged movies, because most times they misfire. I feel like “Die Hard” is going to make an appearance, but that seems so cliche by now to put it on the list. I liked “The Muppets Christmas Carol”, but I feel like that’s not going to make it.

Although, I did like Disney’s animated Christmas special from last year, “Prep and Landing”. I know it won’t make the list, but it’s a fun little short.

    1. It’s a Wonderful Life
    2. Christmas Story
    3. Miracle on 34th Street
    4. Die Hard.

    Uh…

  • Yeah, exactly. And “Die Hard”, to be clear, is not a Christmas movie. Nor is it a great movie in any way, shape, or form (though it’s pretty entertaining for what it is).

  • Brandon Cooley

Die Hard is arguably a Christmas movie and is great in every way shape and form… in my opinion. Home Alone is very good too.

  • @G1000 – Spoiler: you are going to be disappointed. We’ve included a few movies that aren’t technically Christmas movies, but are set during Christmas time or use Christmas as a major theme.

Davin should have the first review up later today.

lol I can say I’m a sucker of Christmas movies, even if some are corny.

I guess my list of 12 would be..
    (not in a specific order)
    It’s a Wonderful Life
    Home Alone
    A Muppet Christmas Carol
    Christmas Story
    Miracle on 34th Street
    Love Actually
    Nightmare Before Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas(Jim Carrey movie)
    The Polar Express
    Tokyo Godfathers
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
    The Santa Clause

I just get really into the Holidays and X-mas movies just make me smile.

  • Aaron King

I’m pulling for the stop-motion Rudolph. That, along with the Meet the Raisins Christmas Special, was a childhood cornerstone for me.

  • Sorry, Aaron, but we’re not including TV specials. That eliminates pretty much every stop-motion animated Christmas movie and the original ‘Grinch.’

  • Aaron King

Ah, well. The internet: destroying my childhood since 1998. I guess I should’ve read the rules closer. As long as Love Actually doesn’t show up, I’ll be happy.

  • Ben

Gremlins and The Muppet Christmas Carol are two of my favorites.
