View the Updated Precursor Charts

Alexander Payne’s The Descendants has been enjoying a bit of a surge lately as it has become an increasing favorite among critics groups. Between Saturday and today the film has taken home prizes for Best Picture from three critics groups and it has caught up with The Artist in the precursor race. It is not likely to be considered the frontrunner just yet, but there is definitely some momentum behind it.

The latest group to appreciate Payne’s film is the Florida Film Critics Circle, who gave the film their Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay awards. The Artist was not completely shut out and it took home the Award for Best Original Screenplay. Michelle Williams has surged to the front of the Best Actress precursor race with another major victory and Albert Brooks continues to lengthen his lead in Best Supporting Actor.
