FMP Ep. 047 – ‘Prometheus’ / ‘Blade Runner’

Alex and Phil get into the details about Ridley Scott’s Prometheus this week as they discuss the performance by Michael Fassbender, Ridley Scott’s mistrust of technology, and other themes from the movie. They continue that discussion into the second half of the show when they talk about Blade Runner and whether or not Harrison Ford is a replicant (and if that even matters). They also share reader responses to the HBO poll.

  • Interesting discussion, and one that I really don’t get to take part in. Myself, I somewhat despised “Prometheus” for being actually rather dull in terms of character, dialogue, and certainly narrative, if there even is one. I only truly agree about Fassbender’s performance, which rises above the film in a way as to almost mock it, which is the only entertaining aspect of it.

In terms of this week’s question, I think it goes to “Blade Runner” quite simply for its more ambitious qualities, and the visuals are far more impressionistic and finely carved. I find “Alien” to be rather simple and small a thing, with characters that simply don’t beg investment. It just didn’t phase me.

  • Another interesting episode with excellent discussion that i found very exciting considering you guys were talking about one of my favorite movies of all time Blade Runner which i literally didn’t liked at all when i first saw back when i was young (i was probably 13 or something). Prometheus is a movie i really want to watch even with the few disappointments in the narrative structure that you guys mentioned, come on at least its 100x better than other crappy sci fi movies. Blade Runner is simply stunning movie with superb visuals and a very atmospheric feel to it, love it every time i watch it.

Even i don’t know exactly which cut i saw but it didn’t had the voice over that you guys were talking about. I do agree with your thoughts on the opening sequence or its futuristic, dystopian setting that feels not to far! and it wont be difficult for me to answer the next poll since i hardly remember anything from ALIEN unfortunately, i have to see it again.

  • hello, its really fantastic blog i am seen this. your blog is wonderful is every one who watching i am very glad to see this..
