In Spring of 2010 Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida will bring to life one of the most elaborate and original worlds in recent cinematic history – Harry Potter.
A new theme park entitled “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” will take fans through many of the most memorable settings in the Potter universe. The new park has been meticulously overseen by author of the book series, JK Rowling, and designed by art directors and set designers from the film series including Oscar winning Stuart Craig and Alan Gilmore. The goal is to completely immerse attendees in everything Potter.
Start your journey by entering Hogsmeade through the station archway. As soon as you enter the park, it is intentionally designed so that other parks nearby are not visible. Once inside guests will find all shops, rides, and restaurants completely Potter themed.
You can go to Ollivander’s and buy yourself a magic wand, or stop by Honeydukes for some chocolate frogs or Bertie Bott’s Every Flavored Beans. After you stop by Zonko’s joke shop for a sneakoscope or Maurader’s Map, head over to the Three Broomsticks for some butterbeer (which I’ve always wanted to try). Dervish and Banges is your source for magic equipment including the gear necessary to play Quidditch. When you’re all done stop by the Owl Post and send your friends a letter about your journey with certified Hogsmeade postmark.
There are also rides that mimic experiences of the Potter children including Dragon Challenge, which mimics the Tri-Wizard tournament, Flight of the Hippogriff, named for the eagle/horse hybrid, and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, which will take guests through a tour of the scenes of Hogwarts.
The park will open just before the release of the latest movies in the Potter franchise.
I can’t imagine how crowded the park is going to be in its opening weeks, but I definitely plan to get there when I can. Below are two videos detailing more what you can expect from the park:
