In Memoriam: Snubs of 2008

The Oscars didn’t see it fit to nominate any of the following films in any category. However, Film Misery wants to ensure that they are not forgotten. Here are some of the best forgotten films of 2008:

Paranoid Park – Gus Van Sant, Gabe Nevins, Christopher Doyle, Rain Li.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall – Jason Segel, Nicholas Stoller, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Russell Brand, Bill Hader, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill

The Fall – Tarsem Singh, Catinca Untaru, Lee Pace, Justine Waddell, Robin Smith, Jeetu Verma, Leo Bill, Marcus Wesley

Pineapple Express – Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Franco, David Gordon Green, Danny R. McBride, Kevin Corrigan, Gary Cole, Craig Robinson

Burn After ReadingJoel and Ethan Coen, Frances McDormand, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, John Malkovich, Richard Jenkins, J.K. Simmons

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father – Kurt Kuenne

Synecdoche, New York – Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Michelle Williams, Samantha Morton, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hope Davis, Peter Friedman

Last Chance Harvey – Joel Hopkins, Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, Eileen Atkins, Kathy Baker, Liane Balaban

Any movies on your list that missed out at the Oscars?

  • Forgetting Sarah Marshall Fortunately!!! It’s a bad movie, my opinion 5/1.

Burn After Reading is good, Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt, and Screenplay missing.

  • Robert Wills

I haven’t seen Dear Zachary, but it might be worthy of a nomination. None of the others you mentioned should have been recognized. Maybe Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading, but he got his nomination elsewhere. Maybe The Fall, for cinematography, but I haven’t seen it. I think Oscar did a pretty good job this year. I would like to have seen Kristin Scott Thomas on the list, but darned if I know who I would have dropped to give her a place in the final 5.

Paranoid Park was a 2007 movie I believe.

    It was excellent though.
