As I announced in the Murtada and Davin introductory post, Career Appreciation will be handled differently going forward. For the months of September and October we will be appreciating one of the greatest filmmakers of all-time – the great American auteur John Ford.
If there were a Mount Rushmore that featured the founding fathers of modern cinema it may consist of D.W. Griffith, Alfred Hitchcock, Ingmar Bergman/Jean-Luc Godard/Orson Welles, and undoubtedly John Ford. Entertainment Weekly named Ford the 3rd greatest director of all-time and MovieMaker Magazine called him the 5th most influential director ever. He was the first director to win back to back Oscars and 9 of his films appear in the latest edition of the book 1,001 Movies You Must See Before You Die. He has the record for most Best Director wins with 4 and he directed over 140 films in his 50 years in the industry.
Join us here at Film Misery as we dedicate two months to some of the best movies ever made with weekly reviews and features about the best John Ford movies of all-time, culminating with an Awards ceremony at the end of October. For now head over to the Career Appreciation page and vote for your favorite Ford film in the poll.
