LOOKING AHEAD: Film Misery in 2010

2009 was a fantastic debut year for Film Misery. Even though this site technically launched on January 1st, I consider March 3rd our “birthday” because that is the day that the Oscar predictions were released and full coverage really began. I can’t say thank you enough to all of those who have been dedicated readers and supporters of Film Misery in our first year of existence. I’m prepared to increase the coverage of everything film in 2010 and keep your cinematic obsessions satiated.

Here are some big things that you can look forward to from Film Misery in 2010:

I am in the process of developing a new design for Film Misery that will be more navigable and feature…

  • More “Spotlight” features so you can keep up with the big stories.
  • Fewer posts on the front page with links and thumbnails leading you to the post instead.
  • Polls and links will remain much the same.

Here are some new features that you can look forward to on Film Misery this year:

  • Box Office predictions. These happened for a short while in 2009, but will start full time in 2010.
  • Interviews. I’m excited to talk to the people working behind the scenes on films this year.
  • Quick Takes – Borrowing an idea from Brad Brevet at Rope of Silicon, I will start writing up brief reviews on the films I saw in a given week and inviting you to do the same.
  • Video! I hope to work on my video editing skills this year and bring some original stuff to the web.
  • Awards history – To help myself and you become a better Oscar predictor, I will be posting and analyzing various awards history.
  • COMIC CON! I’m super excited to have the opportunity to attend the 2010 Comic Con in San Diego. I’m a Con virgin so I’ll have a lot to do a lot of prep, but you’ll get full coverage from me.

The features you love are back and better than ever:

  • Reviews – more reviews will be coming this year and in a more organized way.
  • “Of the Day” – you liked this, so it’s coming back.
  • Career Appreciation – I’ll be announcing the lineup for the first half of the year on Sunday.
  • Daily Trivia – Don’t worry, this isn’t going anywhere.
  • Oscar predictions – of course I’m keeping the most popular page on the site!

To keep up with all the activity around here I’m going to need some help. At the end of the month I will be accepting applications for writers to help grow Film Misery.

Thank you for the continued support and I can’t wait to see what 2010 has in store!

Alex started Film Misery in early 2009 after living the site’s title for many years. His film obsession began in high school when he and his friends would see all of the Oscar Best Picture nominees and try to make predictions...Full Bio.
