No Criterion releases today, which means I have to look elsewhere for the classic film that’s worth purchasing. This time of year there is rarely ever any new films that are worth doing more than renting.
New DVD/Blu-Ray Releases for July 7, 2009:
Peanuts: 1960’s Collection
Directed By: Bill Melendez
I have to admit that I have a soft spot for the Peanuts movies. I grew up reading books of Charles Schultz’s classic comic and watching whatever Peanuts film coincided with the nearest Holiday. This collection is a great deal with six movies and special features for under $20 (on Amazon). The movies included are A Charlie Brown Christmas, Charlie Brown’s All-Stars, It’s the Great Pumpkin, You’re in Love, He’s Your Dog, and It Was a Short Summer.
Directed By: William Wellman
Gary Cooper, Ray Milland, and Robert Preston star as French brothers who are sent in to investigate the theft of an enourmous gem. This is one of the latest from the Universal Backlot series that is seeing life on DVD for the first time. Beau Geste has been called a great adventure film from the golden age of Hollywood. This one you should be able to pick up on Netflix, or at a local rental store and it is worth a good look.
