New on DVD: See the Right Thing

It’s becoming harder and harder to find three worthy films to see every week, so the format is going to be changing to the standard Buy/Rent/Skip format from here on out.

Here are new DVD/Blu-Ray releases for June 30, 2009:

dotherightthingDo the Right Thing (20th Anniversary Edition)

Directed By: Spike Lee

In the conversation that took place last week regarding which past films would have made it in had their always been 10 Best Picture nominees, Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing came up several times. This week the film gets a 20th Anniversary DVD/Blu-Ray release with digitally restored picture. Special features include commentaries, a 20-years later featurette, deleted scenes, a 60-minute making of documentary, the Cannes 1989 press conference, and more.

Directed By: James Gray

Don’t let the fact that the star of this film, Joaquin Phoenix, is now certifiably crazy discourage you from seeing this movie. It had a quiet February release with a low box office take, but it has an impressive 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and Phoenix’s performance is singled out in many reviews. Special features on the DVD include audio commentary from director James Gray, deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette, and photo galleries.
