New York Film Critics Online Give 2011 Best Film Award to ‘The Artist’

View the Updated Precursor Charts

Almost two weeks ago we heard from the New York Film Critics Circle, a group of mostly print based film critics in the Big Apple. Today the group representing the dozens of critics who write solely for online outlets had their say. The group often disagrees with their print based counterparts and this year proved no different as the two had different winners in numerous major categories.

The most notable winner was Melissa McCarthy, who takes home her second prize today for Best Supporting Actress after winning with the Boston Society of Film Critics. This drums up some much needed support for a well-liked comedic performance that many (myself included) believed would have a difficult time securing a nomination. Other big winners included Albert Brooks who took home his third prize of the day for Drive and…more to come.

It looks like A. Brooks will rob an Oscar statue from Ch. Plummer…. and M. Williams is really dark horse for Best Actress win. Also good chances for “Hugo” and “Drive” to pass Best Picture category.
