News and Links: Independence Weekend Wrap

Well, I’m back from a long, peaceful weekend at the cabin and I come back to more news than I can handle. There were 804 new items on my RSS feed. After a quick scan through, here are the highlights:

Movie News:

  • Variety reports that an adaptation of the TV show starring William Shatner “TJ Hooker” will be made into a film. No talks on whether or not Shatner will appear. My guess is he will.
  • The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Tim Meadows will join many other former SNL stars in the upcoming film Grown Ups. Definitely looking forward to this one.
  • /Film reports that Major League 4 is being prepped for production. Did anyone see Major League 3? Or 2?

  • In Contention points us to a brief mention of Julie & Julia that appeared in The New Yorker in which, Ariel Levy calls the portions of the film that contain Streep “pretty transcendent.”
  • links to the trailer for the upcoming American remake of Brothers directed by Jim Sheridan.
  • Film School Rejects has the embedded YouTube videos of part 1 and 2 of the HBO First Look at Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
  • Shock Till You Drop has the exclusive red band trailer for Jennifer’s Body featuring Megan Fox’s body. Probably NSFW.
  • Rope of Silicon has the embedded video of the first 8 minutes of Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker. The film expands this weekend.

Random Movie Fun:

  • Tonight TCM highlights the career of Meryl Streep by showing Manhattan, Kramer vs. Kramer, and Sophie’s Choice.
  • Rope of Silicon has a How Well Do You Know Harry Potter? Quiz. I got 10 out of 10!
