Of the Day – 11.30.09 – ‘Nine’ vs ‘8 1/2’ Ladies, Greengrass Out of ‘Bourne 4’, ‘Basterds’ and ‘Up’ Big Oscar Bucks

karatekid2Read of the Day:

  • Lou Harry directly compares the women of Nine to the women in the same roles in 8 1/2. Advantage? Honestly, I’d have to say Nine. [Variety]

News of the Day:

  • Paul Greengrass has dropped out of the fourth Bourne film. The film already is not based on one of Robert Ludlum’s novels (he only wrote three) and now with Greengrass out, I’m kinda hoping it doesn’t get made. [The Playlist]

Review of the Day:

  • David Poland has posted another video review, this one on Clint Eastwood’s Invictus. He spends most of the time talking about his general opinion on Eastwood and the absurdity of review embargoes. And the film? He thought it was “ok.” [The Hot Blog]

Oscar News of the Day:

  • Of the expected Oscar contenders, Up and Inglourious Basterds are the highest money makers by far. Possible contenders Star Trek and District 9 have also done quite well at the Box Office. By the way, this only means “Big 8” contenders. [HitFix]

Picture of the Day:

  • (Above right) The first photos from the upcoming Karate Kid remake have appeared online and the one I posted makes me giggle. It appears to be Jaden Smith doing martial arts on the Great Wall of China while a pajama-clad Jackie Chan scolds him for disturbing his nap. [Cinematical]

Trailer of the Day:

  • As mentioned at the Gotham Awards tonight, there is an upcoming film based on a screenplay by Tennessee Williams that was lost for 50 years. That film is called Loss of a Teardrop Diamond and can be seen after the jump. [Rope of Silicon]
