Official Trailer for ‘Love and Other Drugs’

Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway re-unite after their tattered marriage in Brokeback Mountain for Edward Zwick’s Love and Other Drugs. The trailer for the film was released over the weekend and first impressions seem to be overall positive. The film seems to have great performances from its two leads and the supporting cast which includes Oliver Platt, Hank Azaria, and Judy Greer.

The trailer for the film emanates a familiar tone that reminds me of 2009 Best Picture nominee Up in the Air. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a confident pharmaceutical salesman who falls in love with the free-spirited Maggie, played by Anne Hathaway. Their relationship takes them both by surprise as they try to maintain their own firmly established identities while coming under the influence of the drug of love.

There seems to be a lot of confidence in this film’s chances in the blog-o-sphere with the film appearing on several possible Best Picture lists. I have my reservations primarily because Ed Zwick is so unpredictable as a director. His last two films, Defiance and Blood Diamond, failed to resonate with major critics and I don’t foresee great things based on the trailer alone.

I’d be happy to hear your thoughts in the comments, however. You can view the trailer in high definition at Apple.

Love and Other Drugs will be in theatres in the U.S. on November 24, 2010.

  • I like both Jake and Anne and this looks like a good rom-com. Zwick is better on TV (Once and Again, thirtysomething), so if he can translate that knowingness about relationships into the big screen this movie could take the James L Brooks Oscar slot. The trailer does look better than actual Brooks, How Do You Know.

  • Doesn’t look like best picture or anything, however i’d keep an eye on Hathaway and Gyllenhaal.

  • Maybe Golden Globes. But not Oscars.

I agree with the golden globes statement. I just can’t picture this getting anything major. Picture? Screenplay? Actress?

  • Andrew R.

It looks good, but OSCARS? Not unless it’s brilliant.

  • Quinn

Looks really good, but I don’t know about Oscars except maybe for Gyllenhaal and Hathaway, but Golden Globes probably. Does anyone know the name of the song that starts playing when she tells him she wants to keep it simple? Its been stuck in my head and its driving me crazy.
