Official Trailer for ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ Shows Bradley Cooper and Grown-Up Jennifer Lawrence

Silver Linings Playbook Trailer (2012) Jennifer Lawrence

The Weinstein Company likes to cover all of their bases when it comes to the annual Oscar race with a good mix of period dramas, performance-driven films, and lighter contemporary fare. David O. Russell’s new film Silver Linings Playbook fits into the last of those categories as it depicts a formal mental patient who moves back in with his parents in order to get his life back in order. The film stars Bradley Cooper along with Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Julia Stiles, and Chris Tucker.

The Silver Linings Playbook trailer premiered today via Yahoo! Movies and it depicts an apparently lighter tone than director David O. Russell’s previous Oscar-winning drama The Fighter. Cooper and Lawrence appear to be depicting the quirky type of chemistry that is more recognizable from Russell’s earlier works like I Heart Huckabees or Flirting with Disaster. Both lead performers appear to be at the top of their game with Robert De Niro providing strong support as Cooper’s father. Hopefully it will be a more layered father role than De Niro has been given in the Fockers franchise.

The Master and Django still look the stronges part of Weistein buck this year.

  • Yes those 2 movies will be the strongest part of their Oscar campaign. this looks nice i guess!!! quirky movie with odd characters. good cast, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper looks gud together. i am a big Jackie Weaver fan from Animal Kingdom, great to see her.

  • I have to be honest, I did a genuine double-take when I saw Chris Tucker’s face in this trailer. I guess this is his first non-‘Rush Hour’ movie since ‘Jackie Brown.’

When I heard that Weisnstein was the studio behind the movie, and that Russell was directing it, I assumed it would be an Oscar baity type movie. Instead it looks like a simple romance and nothing more that people will probably forget about by the end of the year.
