Paul Greengrass’ Bourne trilogy was a treat for action film aficionados. The brilliant technical achievement as well as the intelligent story combine to make the ultimate action film. With Greengrass and Matt Damon’s newest collaboration, Green Zone, a lot of us are hoping that they are able to re-create the magic of the Bourne films. From the trailer that was released several weeks ago, it was pretty clear that stylistically the film will be very similar. Greengrass is using his mastered steadi-cam cinematography and quick editing to create the same type of action feel we’ve seen before.
In a recent featurette released by Universal Pictures, Greengrass says that not only will the film by stylistically similar to Bourne, but it will contain the same narrative tone:
The mission of this film was to say “can we create a film that’s every bit as compelling, every bit filled with action, every bit a privileged inside view to a secret world as the Bourne films?” I’m confident that what we’ve seen will say “yes you can.”
Matt Damon proved in the Bourne films that he can anchor an action movie. This film also stars Greg Kinnear as the governmental antagonist as well as Brendan Gleeson, Jason Isaacs, and Amy Ryan. Check out the featurette after the jump.
Green Zone will be in theatres in the U.S. on March 12, 2010.
