POLL: What is your favorite Christmas movie?

In this week’s Q & A, members of the Film Misery staff discussed our annual Holiday traditions that have to do with movies. It seems there is always a favorite movie to visit this time of year and it might be difficult to choose a single one. Last year Davin and I counted down our 12 favorite Christmas movies, giving some insight into the types of movies that we each appreciate.

For this poll I had to narrow down the options, so I tried to focus on movies that were explicitly about Christmas. This eliminated great options like The Apartment, Fanny and Alexander, and Meet Me in St. Louis. However, I definitely included the “Other” option to ensure that everybody’s favorites were included. If your selection is not listed on the chart below, please explain in the comments.

It is a difficult decision for me between A Christmas Story, which I have watched annually since childhood without fatigue, or It’s a Wonderful Life, which never ceases to choke me up and continually proves its timelessness. In the end I have to go with the latter, simply for the unmatched quality of filmmaking.

Vote for your choice below and be sure to explain your reasoning in the comments.

  • My favorite movie to watch during the holiday season is actually one of my favorites of all time “The Shop around the Corner”. Also watched “Christmas in Connecticut” this year, which was fun.

P.S. did anyone else notice Beaker flick Scrooge the “bird” in “The Muppet Christmas Carol”? :)

    • ‘Shop Around the Corner’ is an awesome, awesome, AWESOME choice Chad! Maybe my favorite Ernst Lubitsch film (though ‘Ninotchka’ is great too).

  • Jose

Just want to add Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns. Which kind of are Christmas movies.

  • Cayci Phillips

Where’s Just Friends?! Ryan Reynolds om nom nom :)

  • So happy Scrooged is on the list – always been my favorite!
