Potter Continues to Sectum Sempra the Box Office

One day down and the money is pouring in for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In its first full day of release, it has made $58.4 million! That includes it’s record-breaking $22.2 million midnight release.

The bad news is that this is just behind the one-day opening of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen which grossed $62 million on its first day. Transformers 2 has the largest Wednesday opening of all-time; Half-Blood Prince comes in second.

The largest single day opening of all-time belongs to The Dark Knight, which brought in $67.2 million on its Friday opening in 2008. The Dark Knight‘s five-day span is also the current record-holder pulling in $203,8 million in a Friday thru Tuesday span. Can the Half-Blood Prince‘s five-day opening come close to the high standard sent by Batman?

The other question that will become more clear after this weekend is whether or not Harry Potter can catch up to Transformers 2. My hopes are high…
