Producers Guild Announces 2010 Nominees

In my best awards predictions of the year so far, I went 9 for 10 in my PGA predictions and 4 for 5 in the PGA Animated predictions. I’m not even going to mention how I did in the documentary category.

The Producers Guild showed some serious love for Science Fiction with their nominations, selecting Avatar, District 9, and Star Trek for their Best Producer award and 9 for their Best Animated Producer award. The animated film Up found its way into the 10 best producers nominees and the 5 best animated producers nominees. It has become the third Pixar film to be nominated for Best Producer.

The notable admission from the 10 nominees is the Coen Brothers comedy A Serious Man, which shows more shakiness from the increasingly awards unfriendly film. Despite the critical love for the Coen Brothers’ dark comedy, it has been almost completely absent from the precursor season. Nine has recently fallen from a speculated nomination spot – does this absence of A Serious Man from the PGA spell the same fate?
