Producers Guild Award Predictions

One of the most accurate predictors of the Best Picture Oscar nominees is the Producers Guild Awards. In the past three years, 4 of the 5 films nominated by the PGA go on to receive a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. To keep up with the Oscars, the Producers Guild Awards has also expanded their list of nominees to ten. There are usually not too many surprises, but with the expanded Oscar pool the lineup of Best Picture nominees is far from set.

For the Animated and Documentary predictions, it is never exactly clear how many nominees will be on the ballot. Last year there were 3 in each, the year before that there were 3 animated films and 5 documentaries. I anticipate that this year will feature 5 films in each category, because that’s what the Oscars are going to look like and the PGA loves to keep up with the Oscars.

Here is how I think tomorrow’s Producer Guild Nominations will go:

Best Picture of the Year
An Education
Avatar
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Invictus
Precious
A Serious Man
Star Trek
Up in the Air
Up

Best Animated Film
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs
Coraline
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Princess and the Frog
Up

Best Documentary Film
The Beaches of Agnes
Capitalism: A Love Story
The Cove
Every Little Step
Food, Inc.

Your turn. Do your worst with PGA predictions of your own.
