Producers Guild of America Vouches for ‘Argo’

ArgoThe Oscar race is still as competitive as it’s been in some time, and tonight’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, alongside Saturday’s Directors Guild Awards, will surely give us some indication of where the season is headed. At this moment, though, it’s really starting to look like it could be Argo. The film’s been on everyone’s tongue since Ben Affleck surprisingly didn’t make the director nominations, and we all thought the race was between Silver Linings Playbook, Life of Pi, and Lincoln. We may have to reconsider after the PGA’s awards decisions last night.

Winning the Darryl F. Zanuck award hardly solidifies its stature as Best Picture winner next month, but it’s enough to indicate that Argo isn’t out of the race just yet, alongside recent Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards wins. Another indication we got from last night’s winners is how optimistic the choices were, with Wreck-It Ralph and Searching for Sugar Man winning in their respective categories. I wouldn’t be shocked if both were on course for Oscar victory from here on. But as I said above, there’s still plenty room for the field to be shaken up. Four weeks out, we don’t want things to suddenly get boring, do we?

I not too sure about Argo, doesn’t the fact that it took home the golden globe mean that it still has something going against it?
