RIP David Carradine 1936-2009

I figured even though I’m kind of on vacation I had better stop in and say something about David Carradine’s passing. I really only knew him as Bill from the recent Kill Bill franchise and those weird Yellow Book commercials. His performance in Kill Bill was captivating and he played the role with the right balance of intelligence and subtlety. You got the feeling that his character was always a step ahead of both Beatrix and the viewer as he worked out his sinister plot. He handled Tarantino’s dialogue masterfully and despite the evilness of his character he manipulated the audience into making Bill somebody who was almost sympathetic. Below is one of my favorite scenes in the series – the Superman dialogue:
