San Diego Film Critics Society Awards 2010

Finally a critics group has broken from the pack and given an award to a film that is NOT called The Social Network. The San Diego Film Critics Society has named their 2010 award winners and Winter’s Bone came out on top with 3 wins in what is definitely one of the most diverse batches of critics awards given out this season. The winners for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay all belonged to different movies and several actors who had not had their names mentioned previously in the precursors are now winning Awards, such as John Hawkes from Winter’s Bone and Colin Farrell for Ondine. The Social Network received only one win from the SDFCS, which has been sweeping precursors left and right.

With each new Award that is given out to The Social Network, it actually seems to make Winter’s Bone a stronger contender. At this point the indie hit and critical darling seems like the only film that could potentially upset The Social Network if it gets a good campaign going for it. There will be an Oscar predictions update coming at the end of the week and expect Winter’s Bone to have gained some major ground.
