Screen Actors Guild Award Nominees 2009

Once again, the predictions weren’t too much of a shocker. Inglourious Basterds, Precious, and Up in the Air lead the pack with three nominations a piece. Check out the nominations and how I did below:

Screen Actors Guild Nominees 2009

Best Ensemble Cast
An Education
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds

How I Did: 3 out of 5. I assumed that Avatar wouldn’t do much in terms of acting awards, but seeing as it is a best picture contender, I thought it could sneak in here. Apparently Up in the Air is being seen more as a showcase of individual performances than an ensemble piece. However, Inglourious Basterds and The Hurt Locker continue to their seemingly endless streak of being adored.

Probable Winner: The Hurt Locker

Best Actress
Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side
Helen Mirren, The Last Station
Carey Mulligan, An Education
Gabby Sidibe, Precious
Meryl Streep, Julie & Julia

How I Did: 5 out of 5. Ladies and gentlemen, I’m fairly positive that we have our best actress nominees.

Probable Winner: Carey Mulligan – An Education

Best Actor
Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart
George Clooney, Up in the Air
Colin Firth, A Single Man
Morgan Freeman, Invictus
Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker

How I Did: 4 out of 5. I attempted to psychically will the SAG voting committee to choose Michael Stuhlbarg as a nominee, but alas, I was unsuccessful. We may have our five Best Actor nominees as well.

Probable Winner: George Clooney- Up in the Air

Supporting Actor
Matt Damon, Invictus
Woody Harrelson, The Messenger
Christopher Plummer, The Last Station
Stanley Tucci, The Lovely Bones
Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds

How I Did: 4 out of 5. Could Damon finally get another Oscar nomination? He’s been overdue for years and he seems to consistently just miss. He was much better in The Informant! than he was in Invictus, but the Best Actor category is too tight this year. Waltz is a lock. Tucci is a lock. Plummer is a probability. Harrelson is more likely than not. It’s probably between Damon and Molina for that fifth spot.

Probable Winner: Christoph Waltz – Inglourious Basterds

Supporting Actress
Penelope Cruz, Nine
Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air
Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air
Diane Kruger, Inglourious Basterds
Mo’Nique, Precious

How I Did: 3 out of 5. Julianne Moore didn’t get a nomination? That’s kind of upsetting. It’s also surprising that both Farmiga and Kendrick got nominations for Up in the Air, yet the film did not get an Ensemble nod. Diane Kruger is the biggest surprise of the whole day. She was not even on my Oscar charts. That’s going to have to change.

Probable Winner: Mo’Nique – Precious

Best Stunt Ensemble
Public Enemies
Star Trek
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I wish that was a category at the Oscars.
