Shocking: ‘Avatar’ Leads VES Nominations

There are a lot of Oscar categories that seem to be set in stone at this point, but none more so than Avatar‘s Best Visual Effects win. The technical achievement in Avatar is the reason that they have a Visual Effects category and if it manages to lose somehow, it will be a downright travesty. The Visual Effects Society hasn’t missed any of Avatar‘s visual charm as they have awarded it 11 nods in their annual list nominations.

Other films receiving nominations include 2012, Star Trek, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and District 9. Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 continues to garner praise as it makes its way to a possible Best Picture nomination. Check out the complete list of nominations from the VES after the jump.
