‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Continues to Get Props

It has now been about 6 months since the cast and crew of Slumdog Millionaire stormed the stage to accept the Oscar for Best Picture. That ceremony concluded about 3-months of heralding praise heaped on Danny Boyle’s inspirational underdog story. The only man to take home two Oscar statues from the 2009 Oscar ceremony was Slumdog‘s composer A.R. Rachman who won for Best Original Score and Best Original Song (“Jai Ho”).

Well, today the accolades continue as A.R. Rachman found himself with three nominations in the 2009 World Soundtrack Awards – for Best Original Score of the Year and two Best Original Song nominations (“Jai Ho” and “O Saya”). I wouldn’t be surprised to see him add two more trophies to his mantle.

The World Soundtrack Awards have been going on since 2001. Really they are just another awards ceremony that is unnecessary, but inevitable. However, by waiting until August to give their awards to films released in the preceding year they make themselves look completely idiotic. They put themselves on the same level of prestige as the MTV Movie Awards. They mostly mimic what the Oscars had to say in the same categories, with one or two differences.
