This month (end of July – beginning of August) has been Film Misery Career Appreciation month for the distinguished Ingrid Bergman, so this is particularly exciting. As part of TCM’s Summer Under the Stars series they will be highlighting the career of Ingrid Bergman by playing her films throughout the day and night on Friday, August 6th.
The marathon began this morning with 1945 film Saratoga Trunk at 5:00am CT and it will conclude tonight at 2:30am CT with Gaslight, the film for which she received her first of three Oscar wins. The line-up jumps back and forth between her early American work, her 1950s Italian cinema for husband Roberto Rossellini, her work with Alfred Hitchcock, and her most iconic roles. The films to be featured include the classic film Casablanca, my favorite performance of hers in Notorious, Rossellini’s Europa ’51 and Stromboli, and her first American film Intermezzo: A Love Story.
Many of you have mentioned that you have not seen many films of Bergman’s and this makes for the perfect opportunity. Most of the films playing today were nominated for Oscars and several would appear high up on a film buff’s must-see list. Check out the full schedule and spend a day with the lovely and talented Ingrid Bergman.
