The Descendants was proclaimed the Best Picture of the year in the 16th Satellite Awards. Alexander Payne’s film also won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

But it was Drive that took home the most awards, with Nicolas Winding Refn winning Best Director, Ryan Gosling and Albert Brooks winning Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, and the movie winning Best Sound Editing.

The other acting awards went to Viola Davis for The Help, and Jessica Chastain for The Tree of Life.

Front-runner The Artist, on the other hand, only took home one award for Best Art & Production Design.

An award to take note of is their decision to give Best Cinematography to War Horse, which marks the first time this season that a movie bested The Tree of Life and Emmanuel Lubezki.
