‘The Final Destination’ Tops the Box Office

The battle between the end of summer horror movies at the box office has been won by The Final Destination. The film brought in $28 million dollars in its first week, $11 million more than its competition – Rob Zombie’s Halloween II. The Final Destination had the advantage of appearing in 3-D and therefore earning more per ticket.

The two films are a cap on the end of a record-setting summer at the box office. Later this week I will do a retrospective on the summer box office and how I did on my predictions.

Inglourious Basterds stayed strong in its second weekend bringing in a little over $20 million. Also, Julie &  Julia, which never made a big dent at the box office to begin with, somehow manages to drop only 15.9% and hang on to the top 10 in its 4th week.

The biggest disappointment this weekend was Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock, which brought in a dismal $3.75 million and came in 9th for the weekend.
