‘The Green Hornet’ Gets Photos and a Trailer

At an event last night for online film journalists in Hollywood the official first trailer for Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet was revealed. The trailer has since appeared online courtesy of Yahoo! Movies. Based on the two and a half minute trailer, The Green Hornet appears to be right along the lines of the traditional superhero origin stories. However, Michel Gondry is not one to follow genre conventions so I have a feeling that there is more to it than the trailer reveals. Seth Rogen once again seems to be playing himself and Kato, the soft-spoken side kick played by Jay Chou seems like he could be the highlight of the movie. That is if the gloriously villainous Christoph Waltz doesn’t steal every single scene the way he did in Inglourious Basterds.

The trailer premiere was followed by a Q & A in which director Michel Gondry, writer/actor Seth Rogen, co-writer Evan Goldberg, and producer Neal Moritz took questions from the press. They discussed the excitement of the film being released in 3D, the complexities of KatoVision, and the relationship between Kato and The Green Hornet. When speaking about the characters’ physical relationship, Goldberg said:

Kato is the definitely the more skilled individual.  We joke about it how Seth had to get in shape to do the movie and Jay didn’t.  He was in shape.  It was inherently there.  He is this very talented, genius kind of guy and Seth is a normal guy.

The trailer is below and several production photos are after that. Do you think we should be considered with the release date push back of The Green Hornet?

Can Christoph Waltz be any more of a badass?
I’m sold on the movie, had doubts, now I want to see it.
