New Trailer for ‘The Master’ Reveals Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams

'The Master' Trailer (2012) Philip Seymour Hoffman

The title of the new Paul Thomas Anderson film is particularly appropriate, because it also nicely describes studio chief and awards strategist Harvey Weinstein. The Weinstein Company has been releasing footage from their upcoming film The Master in brief videos that are more like clip reels than trailers. In May they released our first look at Joaquin Phoenix and today they released a new series of clips that give us our first glimpse of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams.

Like the first clip, The Master trailer is underscored by a pulsing score from composer Johnny Greenwood. It continues to reveal the journey of Joaquin Phoenix’s character as we see his first interactions with the spiritual leader played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. There is a little bit revealed about their relationship, and the inspiration that Phoenix gives to Hoffman (as described by Amy Adams). The minute and a half clip, does more to raise interesting questions about the characters than spoil any of the plot.

This may the point at which I stop paying attention to clips from The Master, as I do not want to know too much going in. However, my anticipation is about as high as it can get for a movie and the film’s October release cannot come soon enough.

Check out The Master trailer below (via The Playlist) and let me know your thoughts in the comments!

The Master will be released in the U.S. on October 12, 2012.
