Disney’s return to hand-drawn animation just had it’s trailer released:
The Princess and the Frog trailer to me looks promising. Disney has been playing up the nostalgic feel with their trailers lately. (Remember the Wall-E trailer from last year where they began it by highlighting Pixar’s best work?) This trailer definitely has the feel of a classic Disney animated film, with also some elements that Disney has never done before.
Disney re-assembled a lot of its hand-drawn animation all-star team with this film. Ron Clements and John Musker, who have previously directed The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Hercules, direct and help write this new feature. However, the one qualm that I have about this movie musical is that composer Alan Menken is not involved. The man who has written some of the most sing-alongable music in film history, and one of the main reasons Disney films work so well, is going to be missed. Randy Newman is attached as the films composer, which is not a let down, but when I hold Alan Menken on such a pedestal, nothing quite satisfies.
