This G.I. Joe is Way Better Than ‘Rise of the Cobra’

There has been lots of moaning and groaning around the blog-o-sphere recently over the fact that Paramount is hosting advanced screenings of G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, but NOT inviting any critics or members of the press. Apparently everybody wants to be the first to tear this film a new one. It’s no secret that this movie is going to blow, and if it’s even somewhat decent I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, all this talk got me to YouTube and I found some of my favorite old web videos. The re-dubbed G.I. Joe cartoons that were once popular on eBaumsWorld. Here’s a compilation of some of them:

Ah, ridiculous, stupid, and wonderful. Everything the movie is going to be, minus the wonderful part.

  • Not sure what it means, but at least GI Joe has started off well, with safer-targeted reviews.

It’s 7 of 8 on Rotten Tomatoes as of 11:55am on Monday, but that hardly involved some of the nation’s top, for better or worse, critics.

I’ll be checking the movie out, for no reason other than to feed my inner-child. I expect it to be corny, cheesy, over-the-top, and targeted for 10 year olds. And if it hits that mark, I won’t mind at all.

I liked Transformers 2, too long though, for what it was. I was entertained, saw Megan Fox plenty, and didn’t have to spend any time following the plot (who could?).

While movies like (500) Days of Summer and The Hurt Locker are my movie diet, I can binge on a movie like G.I. Joe, even if it ends up borderline horrific, now and then.

Not everything needs to be Citizen Kane or the Godfather. I can settle for Michael Bay now and then.
