I’m not afraid to admit that the horror genre doesn’t normally do it for me. Recent offerings to the horror genre are more likely to make me roll my eyes than shake in my seat. That’s why whenever a horror movie comes along that genuinely piques my interest, it’s kind of a big deal.
The latest film to accomplish this feat is the ghost thriller Paranormal Activity, which got its trailer premiere today. The movie is filmed in a Blair Witch first-person style to create a candid realistic feel. This isn’t the first time this has been done and it won’t be the last, but this looks like one of the rare times that they do it right. Check out the trailer below, more discussion after the jump.
The trailer is rather clever. How could anybody not be interested when they see the test audience tightening their hoods, squirming in their seats, and jumping into the aisles. The movie doesn’t promise any gimmicks. The trailer could have easily set itself up to be a faux-documentary, a la The Blair Witch Project. Although, it seems to be filmed as such, the trailer instead promises a fine piece of thrilling entertainment. Take it as you will.
Paranormal Activity will be in theatres in the U.S. on September 25.
